Background
Founded in 1849 as the first "normal
school" west of the Alleghenies, Eastern Michigan University is
one of America’s largest producers of educational personnel. The College of
Education at EMU provides outstanding leadership in education. Our graduates
are highly sought by school districts and other employers. Our alums have
achieved much recognition and positions of prominence. The College offers a
comprehensive range of programs—bachelor's, master's and doctorate degrees
(many with online and off-campus options)—and extensive non-degree and certification
experiences. All professional education programs are accredited by the National
Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and approved by the
Michigan Department of Education. Over 30 programs have national recognition.

Eligibility & Additional Info

25% Tuition Scholarship towards undergraduate programs. The scholarship award will be equal to 25% off tuition for up to two (2) City Year corps members, alumni or staff per year. Note: The two scholarship slots are allocated with flexibility each year between undergrad and graduate programs.
- Scholarships renewable in subsequent years of the program up to 3 years.

Scholarships awarded to City Year corps members or
alumni for at least one year of service and City Year staff members employed
for at least two years.
- The application fee ($20) is not waived but if a City Year member is accepted and enrolls in a program the cost of the application fee will be added to the value of the scholarship.

A one year deferral for City Year members admitted to an undergraduate program who decide to serve with City Year before starting their studies.

Applicants will be considered for additional
merit-based awards based on the strength of the application.
Eligible Undergraduate Programs
The College of Education prepares teachers for Elementary education (K-5 or K-8 depending on
program), secondary education (6-12), K-12 programs in some majors, and special

scholarship. Please state that you served with City Year and reference our
partnership. Please also self-identify on your resume and/or
application materials.
A verification
letter must be submitted to be considered for the scholarship. Please send
an email to Nan Shearer, City Year Alumni & Career Services Manager, at giveayear@cityyear.org
with "EMU College of Education undergrad: City Year verification letter
request” in the subject line and include the site where you served and dates of
service in the email. This letter will be sent to the Admissions Office and
added to applicant file.
