City Year is proud to partner with The University of Chicago Urban Teacher Education Program, a leading teacher preparation program preparing teachers of the highest caliber for Chicago Public Schools while empirically testing a model for urban teacher preparation, offering 45% tuition scholarships.

Background

The University of Chicago Urban Teacher Education Program prepares teachers of the highest caliber for Chicago Public Schools while empirically testing a model for urban teacher preparation. Our graduates engage in teaching as a highly intellectual career and are classroom-based instructional leaders and agents for educational equity in their schools and community. UChicago UTEP is a two-year graduate program accredited by the Illinois State Board of Education that awards a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree. Alumni then receive up to three years of post-graduation supports, making Chicago UTEP a unique five-year experience.

*Admitted students who defer are required to submit $250 as a tuition deposit and an additional $250 to defer; all monies will be credited toward tuition once they enroll.

Eligibility & Additional Info

  • 45% annual Tuition Scholarship. The scholarship awardfor University of Chicago UTEP will be equal to 45% of tuition for up to five (5) City Year corps members, alumni or staff members per year.
  • Scholarships renewable for a maximum of two years.
  • Scholarships awarded to City Year alumni for at least one year of service and City Year staff members employed for at least two years.
  • A one-year deferral for students admitted to the program who decide to serve with City Year before starting with University of Chicago UTEP (see details above*).
  • Applicants will be considered for additional merit-based awards depending on the strength of the application.

To identify and verify your City Year affiliation
  • To get the application fee waived and be considered for the give a year scholarship, please contact the Admissions Office (see contact info below).

  • A verification letter must be submitted to be considered for the scholarship. Please send an email to Nan Shearer, City Year Alumni & Career Services Manager, at giveayear@cityyear.org with "UChicago UTEP: City Year verification letter request” in the subject line and include the site where you served and dates of service in the email. This letter will be sent to University of Chicago UTEP’s Admissions Office and added to applicant file.
