Career Partnership with NYU Steinhardt’s Embedded Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education
Share |

City Year is proud to partner with the Embedded Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education (EMAT) at New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development so our alumni can continue to lead on transformational change on pressing social problems. This partnership reflects the shared visions and values of both organizations, and their belief that young people can keep students on track to graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected for the EMAT teacher residency.

Background

The Embedded Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary Education (EMAT) is a full-time school-embedded teacher residency program with online course instruction taught by NYU Steinhardt faculty. Teacher residents are placed in high-need urban classrooms in school districts around the country from the first day of school. And in just over one year they earn their master of arts in teaching and are eligible for initial teacher certification in New York State in English, mathematics, science (biology, chemistry, physics, or Earth science), or social studies.

The City Year experience is a strong indicator of future success at NYU Steinhardt and serving a year with City Year strengthens an applicant’s application and chances for being selected as a resident intern. Click here to learn more about the NYU Steinhardt EMAT experience.
