Are you ready to make a powerful impact in youth lives through your career? Have you ever, or always, wanted to teach? If yes, then the Chicago Teacher Residency with Academy for Urban School Leadership (AUSL) may be the opportunity for you.
AUSL is a nonprofit school management organization that turns around chronically underperforming schools within the Chicago Public Schools (CPS). We currently manage 19 schools and are growing each year. Our turnaround process is a complete transformation of chronically failing schools with new teacher talent as well as a new school culture, climate and curriculum that will dramatically improve the academic outcomes and life chances of their students. Our Chicago Teacher Residency program is a pipeline of talent for those schools. As an AUSL resident, you will receive:
• A full year of training in a Chicago Public School classroom, under the guidance of an experience mentor teacher.
• Master’s degree and eligibility for an Illinois teaching certification, completed in 12 months.
• Financial Support for the training-year, including a $30,000 annual training salary, $5,350 AmeriCorps Education Award (2 awards max), and discounted tuition from National-Louis University.
• Job placement opportunity – over 90% of our graduates are hired as teachers following graduation. For a new master’s degree CPS teacher, the starting salary is over $50,000, plus benefits.
On Wednesday, February 1, at 6PM CST/7PM EST/4PM CST, AUSL will host a special information session for City Year! City Year Chicago is one of our great partners that provide literacy tutoring in our elementary and secondary turnaround schools; so we love seeing the red jackets.
If you are not able to call into the webinar but interested in learning more about AUSL Chicago Teacher Residency, please contact Michelle Kemp, Recruiter, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We look forward to meeting you soon!
NOTE TO CURRENTLY SERVING CORPS MEMBERS: Please note the start date for AUSL is June 11. Please compare this date to your City Year graduation date. Corps members must avoid applying to programs with a start date that conflicts with your City Year graduation, since being accepted into a program that starts before your City Year graduation means ending your term of service with City Year. Ending your term of service early* means losing your Education Award and alumni benefits (i.e. such as give a year scholarship consideration with partner institutions).
