City Year is proud to partner with the Boston University School of Social Work, a leading graduate school focused on producing social workers who possess excellent skills and know how to practice within a variety of contexts, offering one 100% tuition scholarship and two 50% scholarships to accepted full-time students.


The Boston University School of Social Work is a dynamic graduate program, offering MSW, PhD, and dual degree programs, specializations as well as continuing professional education.

Eligibility & Additional Info

  • 50% - 100% Tuition Scholarship . The award for Boston University School of Social Work full-time MSW students will be equal to 100% of tuition for up to one City Year corps member, alumna/us or staff member per year or 50% of tuition for up to two City Year corps members, alumna/us or staff members per year.

  • The scholarship is renewable in the second year of the program for students who remain in good academic standing.

  • Scholarship awarded to a City Year corps member or alumni for at least one year of service or a City Year staff member employed for at least two years. 

  • Applicants to the Full-Time MSW Program are eligible to apply for our City Year scholarship opportunities. (Off-Campus and Online Program applicants are ineligible due to the part-time structure of these program options.)

  • Admitted students may defer enrollment by one year if they decide to stay with City Year for additional time before starting their studies. Accepted applicants awarded a scholarship who defer enrollment are not guaranteed the scholarship in the next admission cycle, but may re-apply.

  •  To obtain your application fee waiver: Applicants will need to request a service verification letter by emailing with "BU School of School of Social Work - Service Verification Letter Request" in the subject line. Once they have the verification of service verification letter, they should email the letter along with their Applicant ID # (a.k.a. CAS ID), found on the top right of their application, to Julia Monturo Larson at Once those materials are received, the admissions office will approve the fee waiver and submit it to the application process center who will update the applicant's account.
