|University Partnership: Brown University Department of Education|
City Year is proud to partner with The Department of Education at Brown University to offer 25% annual tuition scholarships to explore the field of education through the Master of Arts in Teaching Program (MAT) and the Master’s Program in Urban Education Policy (UEP).
The Department of Education at Brown University fosters a graduate student community of reform-minded educators and policy professionals. Our MAT and UEP programs are committed to small, cohort-based experiences that allow students to personalize their graduate year.
The MAT Program includes a dynamic summer practicum and diverse student teaching experiences with mentor teachers across Rhode Island. The MAT Program prepares teachers in elementary education (grades 1-6) and secondary education (grade 7-12) in English, history/social studies, or science (biology, chemistry, or engineering/physics). MAT students form close relationships with faculty, who are experts in teaching and learning, teach analysis seminars, and supervise practicum experiences. During student teaching, MATs conduct teacher research projects that help connect theory and research to their classroom practice. The program is one year in length.
The UEP Program combines a focused academic curriculum and nine-month internship to impart a set of core skills necessary for successful careers in urban education policy. UEP students begin their year with a collaborative research practicum with local educational organizations and leave the program with a powerful national network of education reformers. UEP students complete core academic coursework integrated with a nine-month internship and receive an MA in Urban Education Policy. The program is one year in length.
