Message from the Dean

Senior Vice President and Dean
City Year, Inc.

Dear 2011 City Year Corps and Soon-to-be Alumni -

Over the next couple weeks, more than 1,500 corps members will graduate, growing our alumni network to nearly 15,000 strong. You are joining a special community of leaders who are committed to a lifetime of service and being on the forefront of addressing our country’s most pressing social problems.

I want to appreciate your service and commitment as a City Year corps member and share my excitement for the new leadership role you will take on in communities across the country as a City Year alum.

City Year alumni motivate children to learn as teachers, principals and after school educators; they are policy makers and community activists who give a voice to people who can’t be heard; they help fuel the mission of hundreds of non-profit organizations and social service agencies; they make a difference in the lives of others as doctors, lawyers, artists, musicians and many other professions; they are one alumni community with a special bond dedicated to making change in communities across the country.

City Year seeks to continue to invest in your development as a leader and is committed to developing resources to leverage your service experience as a career accelerator.

One resource available to all graduating corps members is this newly launched Alumni Web Site. This year’s corps is the first to join the new online community. The alumni network will be invited to join you in August.

Check out the Career Center where you can upload your resume, search for jobs from employers who want to hire City Year alumni, find details on our growing list of give a year Partners and LACY Partners, and tips and resources to help you apply to college or graduate school, or enter the workforce.

The new website also contains many features to help keep you connected to City Year, each other and the Alumni Association including maintaining your own profile, search directory, adding connections to fellow alums, joining an alumni group to stay connected to events and much more.

No matter where your next journey takes you, as a member of the alumni network, you will always be an integral part of the City Year family. In so many ways, the opportunity for you to act on your idealism is just beginning.

I hope that you will continue to seek ways to serve, lead and transform, and to utilize the skills that you gained at City Year and contribute to the collective impact of the Alumni Association.

Remember that you are never alone in the work you do because you will always be a part of the City Year community.

Thank you for your service and I wish you all the best this year and beyond.

With Gratitude, Love and Peace,

Charlie Rose
