The most common graduate admission tests are the GRE, GMAT, MCAT, and the LSAT.
- To register for the GRE, the exam required by most graduate schools, head over to the ETS website to sign up for a GRE test. Once there you'll be prompted to create an account, then you'll be guided through the registration process from there. The GRE is administered throughout the year. There is no specific test dates – a test taker can choose his or her test date and time in a nearby center. Important to note: the GRE test dates between September and December will fill up very quickly so register early if you plan to take the test between these months.
- The GMAT is required by most business schools. Once you set up an account on mba.com you'll be able to sign up for a GMAT exam near you. The GMAT is available year-round and on demand, which offers test takers greater flexibility in scheduling. Available time slots change continuously based on capacity and ongoing registration.
- The MCAT is a standardized, multiple-choice examination designed to assess those going on to medical school. It is administered by the Association of American Medical Colleges and to register for an exam you must first set up an account here. The MCAT is offered in most months throughout the year with a regular registration deadline of about 2 weeks before the exam.
- The LSAT is administered by the Law School Admissions Council. They are required for those looking to study law. Once you've created an account on the LSAC website you can register for an exam near you. The LSAT is offered 4 times during the year and the deadline to register is typically one month before the exam date.
