"City Year has well prepared me for this workload and helped to strengthen my endurance and resilience to finish with excellence.”
Since starting the MSW program what has been your most notable achievement?
My most notable achievement since starting the MSW program at USC is being able to help reduce aggressive behaviors and increase prosocial skills at my field placement by implementing the Second Step curriculum with a kindergarten class. It has been an enriching experience to see the effects of the curriculum on students behavior in class and on the playground.
I was selected to be the first year representative for the Asian Pacific Islander (API) Social Work Caucus. This leadership experience has helped me raise funds for scholarships for students who hope to go to school at USC. I have also joined the Phi Alpha Honor Society because of my academic achievements during my first semester of graduate school. As a student, I have also facilitated parent psychoeducation nights on spreading awareness on cyberbullying and its effects on the school environment.
One area of weakness I have to overcome is time management. I am taking six classes, intern for sixteen hours a week, and also have a part-time job. On top of that, I have to plan for an annual scholarship reception for the API Social Work Caucus. Prioritizing and balancing my time are skills I need to survive the MSW program. City Year has well prepared me for this workload and helped to strengthen my endurance and resilience to finish with excellence.
