Alumni Spotlight: Matthew Tow
Matthew Tow '11 • Boston College Law School '14

MTowCity Year is great at putting its members in a position to succeed. While in the corps I was invited to work at a networking event that put me in front of hiring managers at major law firms and was able to establish some important connections.

1) How did City Year prepare you for law school?

I always knew I wanted to study law, but City Year helped me sharpen my focus and hone my management skills before I went to law school. I was able to write my application essay on education in law, and discover my interest in public service.

2) How did your City Year experience influence your career path?

City Year knows how to put its members into positions that will challenge and train them. I learned how to look at the big picture and think more responsibly. 3) Do you stay involved in community work?

Yes, I am participating in an alternative spring break in Boston. Instead of going away for a vacation I will be volunteer my time to provide legal services under an attorney doing research, either for the AIDS Action Committee or on the Harvard Law Foreclosure Task Force.

4) What advice would you give to a current corps member?

I would say to current corps members, especially the older corps members (college graduates), is to enjoy and appreciate the youthfulness that City Year still allows you to have (whether you like it or not) and to not get caught up in the little things, it's only a year.

5) What is one of your favorite memories from City Year?

All the fun times I spent with the amazing people I met at my school, on my team and in the City Year organization. I feel very fortunate that I was able to have such a great time with them.
