City Year is proud to partner with STRIVE Preparatory Schools (STRIVE Prep) so that our alumni can continue to be agents of social change by preparing elementary, middle, and high school students for the opportunities and challenges of college. This partnership reflects the shared visions and values of both organizations, and their belief that all students should have access to a high quality education that leaves them college and career ready. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected for the STRIVE Prep Teacher Residency.
STRIVE Prep is a Denver-based community of free, open enrollment, public charter schools committed to providing every student with an excellent, high-quality, college-preparatory education. STRIVE Prep was founded nearly 10 years ago under the belief that students from all backgrounds deserve a college preparatory education regardless of race, economic circumstance or previous academic achievement.
The STRIVE Prep Teacher Residency is a prestigious, two-year program that allows aspiring teachers to enter the teaching profession via a gradual on-ramp, while earning a livable wage, low-cost teaching certification, and a master’s degree. In year one, Residents serve as co-teachers alongside their Resident Advisor, an experienced STRIVE Prep teacher, who provides them with supervised practice, regular performance feedback, and gradually increased classroom responsibilities. In year two, Residents assume full-time teaching roles at STRIVE Prep, while receiving robust professional development and support. Throughout the entire program, Residents enroll as graduate students at the Relay Denver Graduate School of Education (Relay GSE).
The City Year experience is a strong indicator of future success at STRIVE Prep, and serving a year with City Year strengthens an applicant’s application and chances for being selected as a STRIVE Prep Teacher Resident. Click Here to learn more about the STRIVE Prep Teacher Residency.
