* There is no application fee for prospective students who submit the online application. For any applicant submitting a paper application, please include a memo regarding your City Year affiliation. The memo will serve as a request for waiver of the application fee.

Eligibility and Additional Information

  • $15,000 St. Mary’s University City Year Scholarships toward full-time study in an undergraduate degree program. The academic scholarship award for study at St. Mary’s University is in the amount of $15,000 annually for up to five qualified City Year corps members, alumni or staff members per year. 
  • Scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years (eight semesters). Renewal criteria include maintenance of a grade point average of 3.0 or better and continued full-time enrollment.

  • City Year alumni with at least one year of service and City Year staff members employed for at least two years are eligible for scholarship consideration.
  • A one-year deferral is allowed for recipients who decide to serve additional time with City Year prior to enrolling at St. Mary’s University.
  • Applicants who qualify for more than one St. Mary’s University scholarship for undergraduate study will receive only the scholarship of higher value.

St. Mary's University has a rolling admission policy. However, demand has been high in recent years and it is possible the entering class will reach capacity. Priority is given to students who complete the application procedures in a timely manner. The application priority date for entrance the following fall is January 15.

To Identify and Verify Your City Year Affiliation

  • Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission to identify yourself as having served with City Year and reference our partnership.
  • City Year verification: To get the application fee waived and to be considered for the scholarship, a service verification letter must be requested by emailing with "St. Mary’s University: City Year verification letter request” in the subject line. Within the email, include the site where you served and your corps graduation month and year. This letter will be sent electronically by City Year to Admissions Office and added to your applicant file.
