Cleveland’s revitalized downtown, lakefront park and world-class museums make this low-key Midwestern city a cool place to be. For more than two decades, City Year AmeriCorps members have served Cleveland’s schools, helping students to thrive.
While Cleveland is widely known for being a vibrant center for academia, business, tech and medicine, many students in Cleveland face significant challenges every day. The Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Breakthrough Charter Schools serve more than 40,000 students in 115 schools.

Your corps experience
City Year is a key partner to the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and Breakthrough Charter Schools in creating equitable learning opportunities for all students and develop the city’s future leaders. AmeriCorps members support teachers and staff in delivering instruction that serves the development of the whole child and is responsive to the diverse racial, cultural and linguistic needs of Cleveland youth.
A close-knit community with ample opportunities to develop meaningful personal and professional relationships, Cleveland is an ideal place to serve. By engaging students, families and community organizations, City Year helps students succeed.

As a City Year AmeriCorps member you’ll not only make a measurable impact in the lives of the students and communities you serve, but you’ll grow as an individual, too. During your 11 months of service, you’ll develop leadership and professional skills that will help you advance in your career after City Year—whether you choose to go into nonprofit, law, medicine or something entirely different.

As the end of the school year approaches, we reflect on the incredible journey we've had with our amazing scholars. At City Year Cleveland, we believe in the importance of closing out these relationships in a positive way, ensuring our scholars feel supported and empowered for the road ahead.
One AmeriCorps member truly embodied this spirit of connection and care. She went the extra mile by providing her scholars with special tools to carry their growth forward. Not only did she gift them with notebooks to journal in, but she also presented each scholar with bracelets adorned with words of affirmation. 📝💕
These meaningful gestures served as a reminder to our scholars of their immense potential and the positive impact they can make in the world. The power of positive affirmation can truly transform lives and help our scholars embrace their unique strengths. 💪✨
Closing out relationships in a positive way is crucial because it reinforces the bonds we've built and leaves a lasting impression on our scholars.
