Background

Founded in 1852 by Marianist brothers and priests, St. Mary's University is a central part of the cultural history that makes San Antonio unique. As the oldest Catholic university in the southwest, St. Mary's has become the pillar of San Antonio's Gateway District. Eligibility and Additional Information
 

  • St. Mary’s University City Year Scholarships valued at 75% of tuition toward full-time study in an undergraduate degree program. The academic scholarship award for study at St. Mary’s University is in the amount of 75% of tuition annually for up to four qualified City Year corps members, alumni or staff members per year. 
  • Scholarships are renewable for a maximum of four years (eight semesters) for either transfer or first-time freshman students. Renewal criteria include maintenance of a grade point average of 3.0 or better and continued full-time enrollment.
  • Students who receive additional scholarship support from St. Mary's (merit based, talent based or special program based) at a level greater than 75% of tuition will receive the scholarship of higher value.

  • City Year alumni with at least one year of service and City Year staff members employed for at least two years are eligible for scholarship consideration.
  • A one-year deferral is allowed for recipients who decide to serve additional time with City Year prior to enrolling at St. Mary’s University.
  • Applicants who qualify for more than one St. Mary’s University scholarship for undergraduate study will receive only the scholarship of higher value.


To Apply

St. Mary's University has a rolling admission policy. However, demand has been high in recent years and it is possible the entering class will reach capacity. Priority is given to students who complete the application procedures in a timely manner. The application priority date for entrance the following fall is January 15.

To Identify and Verify Your City Year Affiliation

  • Please contact the Office of Undergraduate Admission to identify yourself as having served with City Year and reference our partnership.
  • City Year verification: To get the application fee waived and to be considered for the scholarship, a service verification letter must be requested by emailing alumni@cityyear.org with "St. Mary’s University: City Year verification letter request” in the subject line. Within the email, include the site where you served and your corps graduation month and year. This letter will be sent electronically by City Year to Admissions Office and added to your applicant file.
