The Boston University Wheelock College of Education and Human Development is committed to the advancement of research and scholarship in the field of education, while providing rigorous preparation for students beginning, or advancing, their career. The school offers programs to fit the needs of new and current educators, counselors, administrators and specialists, as well as programs of advanced studies for practitioners and scholars. Our faculty combine practical expertise and groundbreaking research, to provide students with the most current practices in preparation to be leaders in their field. BU Wheelock believes the combination of scholarship and practice will ensure students are equipped with the tools to be a positive influence and changemaker in their community after graduation.

Eligibility & Additional Info

  • 50% one year tuition scholarship towards any Master's or Certified Advanced Graduate program. Each scholarship recipient accepted and enrolled will receive a 50% guaranteed one year scholarship from BU Wheelock for a specific academic year amounting to 50% of the then current tuition rate.  The scholarship can only be applied to full-time tuition.
  • BU Wheelock will award scholarships to up to five (5) Eligible Applicants per year provided they are accepted into a BU Wheelock Master's or Certified Advanced Graduate program.
  • City Year AmeriCorps members who successfully completed one term of service and current staff members employed for at least two years are eligible for the application fee waiver, deferral and consideration for the scholarship.
  • Scholarships are renewable at the sole discretion of BU Wheelock.
  • A one year deferral for students admitted to the program who decide to serve with City Year before starting with BU Wheelock.  If a Scholarship Recipient decides to defer enrollment, the recipient forfeits the scholarship for the upcoming academic year but may reapply for the scholarship for the upcoming year.
  • Applicants will be considered for additional merit-based awards depending on the strength of the application.

To identify and verify your City Year affiliation

  • Please select “City Year” when asked about your partner affiliation on your application.

  • Requesting a service verification letterTo get the application fee waived and to be considered for the scholarship, a service verification letter must be requested by emailing with "BU Wheelock" in the subject line. Within the email, include the site where you served and your corps graduation month and year. This letter will be sent electronically by City Year to the Boston University Admissions Office and added to your applicant file.
  • To get the application fee waived and be considered for the scholarship, please contact the admissions office.  Once your online application for admission is 100% complete and to your satisfaction, please contact Graduate Student Services at and request your City Year fee waiver. Please do not submit the application yourself, as this requires credit card payment of the application fee.
