Brooke Charter Schools City Year Career Partner

Brooke Charter Schools offers City Year alums

Teaching residency

Brooke Charter Schools offers City Year alums the opportunity to join the Associate Teacher Program. Associate Teachers are paired with a talented mentor teacher and receive a yearlong apprenticeship in great teaching, including regular observations/feedback and targeted professional development, and receive the following benefits:

  • Earn raises of at least 7% annually beginning in year three
  • Reimbursement for the cost of the Massachusetts Test for Educator Licensure
  • Full benefits and minimum guaranteed compensation of $52,000 for teachers without prior lead teaching experience. Lead teaching promotions are accompanied by a significant salary increase of at least $66,000.

After a year of support and development, the majority of Associate Teachers are ready to take on their own classrooms as full-time teachers.

Why City Year loves Brooke Charter Schools

Brooke Charter Schools is a network of four public charter schools, serving grades K-12 in Mattapan, Roslindale and East Boston. Brooke coaches and invests in its teachers so they can help students achieve at high levels and graduate from college. Brooke believes academic achievement empowers students to live choice-filled lives and enhances their ability to contribute to creating a just world. In a culture of achievement, educators support students in recognizing and building their identities as sources of strength even as they work to grow and achieve in new ways.

The Associate Teacher Program is a yearlong teacher residency that aims to diversify the teacher workforce. Through the program, aspiring teachers gain the skills necessary to lead high-achieving, culturally responsive classrooms and equip their students with tools to advocate for a diverse, equitable and inclusive future. The City Year experience is a strong indicator of future success at Brooke Charter Schools, and serving with City Year strengthens an applicant’s chances for being selected as an Associate Teacher.
