Career Partnership with Citizen Schools National Teaching Fellowship

City Year is proud to partner with Citizen Schools so that our alumni can continue to make a difference in classrooms and in the lives of students. This partnership reflects the shared visions and values of both organizations, and their belief that young people can keep students on track to graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected for the Citizen Schools National Teaching Fellowship in California, Massachusetts or New York.

Since its founding in Boston in 1995, Citizen Schools has been re-imagining the learning day to bring more time, more talented adults, and more relevant learning experiences to middle school students inunderserved communities. We provide:

  • Extended Learning Time (ELT) for middle-school students in six states across the country
  • Hands-on learning taught by AmeriCorps educators and volunteer experts from all fields, including science, law, finance and community service, and more
  • Deep partnerships to help transform schools and re-imagine the American school day
  • A fulfilling volunteer experience that allows ordinary people to make a meaningful difference and help students discover and achieve their dreams

By getting citizens off the sidelines and into schools each year, Citizen Schools is closing the opportunity gap and increasing access to the American Dream.

As a National Teaching Fellow, you will be performing an extraordinary act of citizenship, helping the nation to address one of its greatest challenges; educating our youth in ways that promote self-belief, college readiness and the skills needed to achieve their dreams. It is an opportunity that leads to a better future for students, and holds rich benefits for those willing to dedicate two years of their life to national service through AmeriCorps. That’s why we call the opportunity: Teach, Serve, Grow. To learn more about National Teaching Fellow expectations and opportunities, please view our website.
