City Year is proud to partner with CollegeSpring so our alumni can continue to make a difference in the lives of students. This partnership reflects the shared visions and values of both organizations, and their belief that young people can keep students on track to graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected as a CollegeSpring mentor.



CollegeSpring partners with schools and community organizations to help students from low-income backgrounds boost SAT scores, navigate college admissions and financial aid, and confidently pursue college degrees. Their programs provide a combination of professional instruction, near-peer mentoring by current undergraduates, and diagnostic SAT testing to help students increase SAT scores and understand the college admissions process.

About CollegeSpring Mentors

As a CollegeSpring mentor, you will work to give all students the opportunity to choose a four-year college by tutoring high school juniors and helping them to prepare in-depth for the SAT. CollegeSpring mentors learn to teach and to teach well. You will facilitate discussion and provide the skilled guidance needed to help students really "get it.” In the intimacy of a small-group setting, you will help students clarify confusing concepts and sharpen their skills in order to achieve the SAT scores they need to succeed. You will also prepare students for the college admissions and financial aid processes; therefore, this first step of SAT preparation becomes the start to a successful college journey.

Benefits offered by CollegeSpring:

  • City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected as a CollegeSpring mentor.
  • Pay is $10 per hour ($11.05 in the city of San Francisco).
  • Academic year mentors work 4-10 hours each week depending on the school site. Summer mentors have the option to work part time (15-20 hours each week) or full time (30-40 hours each week).
  • Mentors will have the opportunity to network with and learn from experienced educators.
  • Mentors will receive professional development and ongoing support in lesson planning, student engagement, and relationship building.


  • CollegeSpring hires part-time mentors during the academic year to work during the spring semester and hires part- to full-time mentors for their five-week summer programs. Plan to apply in late fall for spring semester positions and in early spring for summer positions.
