Share |

City Year is proud to partner with the Green Dot Public Schools so our alumni can continue to lead transformational change on pressing social challenges. This partnership reflects our shared belief that passionate and relationship driven educators can help students stay on track to graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected for the Adelante Teacher Credentialing Program.

Green Dot Public Schools is a non-profit charter management organization driven by the mission to transform public education so that ALL students graduate prepared for college, leadership, and life.

Green Dot stands out among other networks by:

  • Accepting all students
  • Having a unionized teaching and classified staff
  • Offering a competitive salary for beginning teachers and very generous benefits for you and your dependents (minimum salary is $51,873)
  • Investing in establishing a culture of feedback and reflection at all levels
  • Operating transformation/community schools in the Watts and South LA communities

As one of the three largest charter management organizations in the nation, Green Dot schools consistently achieve outstanding academic outcomes through innovative college-preparatory curriculums, collaborative and personalized teaching methods, and strong support systems for both students and staff.

As a member of the Adelante cohort, you will be hired as a full-time teacher at one of our middle schools or high schools. You will work under an internship credential and attend evening courses facilitated at Green Dot sites and/or at Loyola Marymount University in order to earn your preliminary single subject credential.

One of the program’s objectives is to prepare you to become a highly effective and impactful urban educator. To this end, you will receive intensive summer training before you begin teaching in the fall, and once the school year begins, you will receive different levels of support, including twice-weekly professional development, regular observations, coaching and feedback, and new teacher supports.

The City Year experience is a strong indicator of future success at Green Dot Public Schools and serving a year with City Year strengthens an applicant’s application and chances for being selected as an Adelante Teacher Fellow.  Click here to learn more about the Adelante Credentialing Program experience.
