Career Partnership with NYU's Teacher Residency
Share |

City Year is proud to partner with NYU’s Teacher Residency, a one-year combined residency and master of arts in teaching (MAT) program, so our alumni can continue to lead on transformational change on pressing social problems. This partnership reflects the shared visions and values of both organizations, and their belief that young people can keep students on track to graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. City Year strengthens an applicant’s competitiveness and chances for being selected for the NYU Teacher Residency.

The NYU Teacher Residency offers a transformative approach to teacher preparation by combining the comprehensive instruction of a master of arts in teaching from a world-renowned research university with deep partnerships in schools across the country. While immersed in one school for an entire year, you are surrounded by a community of support from fellow teacher residents, in-school teacher mentors, and NYU Steinhardt faculty working together to cultivate your growth into an effective teacher. When it’s time to lead a classroom of your own, you are ready on day one. You will have the practical foundation to meet the needs of each student and confidently know how to build an equitable community of learners of all backgrounds and all instructional needs.

There are residency partner schools in San Francisco, CA, Washington, DC, Palm Beach, FL, Danbury, CT, Upstate and Central New York, and New York City. We continue to add locations, and regions, as the Teacher Residency grows.

The City Year experience is a strong indicator of future success at NYU Steinhardt and serving a year with City Year strengthens an applicant’s application and chances for being selected as a resident intern. Learn more about the NYU Teacher Residency experience.
