City Year is proud to partner with the Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law, to offer a $10,000 annually renewable tuition scholarship to the J.D. program for all admitted City Year AmeriCorps members, alumni, and staff.






Founded in 1953, Villanova University Charles Widger School of Law provides broad-based legal education that is grounded in academic rigor, practical hands-on training and a foundation in business that prepares graduates for diverse and rewarding legal careers. The Law School, which is accredited by the American Bar Association, offers seven in-house clinics and more than 150 externship opportunities that immerse students in the real-world application of their legal skills. Villanova is home to an Institute and four Centers of Excellence—the Villanova Law Institute to Address Commercial Sexual Exploitation; the Jeffrey S. Moorad Center for the Study of Sports Law; the David F. and Constance B. Girard-diCarlo Center for Ethics, Integrity and Compliance; the Center for Law & Religion; and the John F. Scarpa Center for Law and Entrepreneurship—which provide students the opportunity to pursue innovative, interdisciplinary legal fields through study, practical experience and mentorship.

Eligibility & Additional Info 


 $10,000 annually renewable scholarship.  The scholarship award will be $10,000 annually for all City Year corps members, senior corps members, alumni, and staff who are admitted.

The scholarship may be renewed in subsequent years provided recipients maintain continuous registration and remain in good academic standing, according to Villanova Law standards.


Scholarships awarded to City Year AmeriCorps members and alumni for at least one year of service and City Year staff members employed for at least two years.

Villanova Law will allow deferrals up to one year if accepted applicants decide to serve additional time with City Year.

Scholarships described above represent the minimum awards; applicants will be considered for additional merit-based aid based on the academic strength of the application.

  • To identify your City Year affiliation: Include your City Year service on your resume, including the site where you served and dates of services, in order to be awarded the City Year scholarship if you are admitted.

  • Request City Year service verification: Please email the City Year Alumni & Career Services Department at with "Villanova Law: City Year verification letter request” in the subject line and include the site where you served and dates of service in the email. This letter will be sent directly to Villanova Law’s Admissions Office and added to your applicant file.
