Background

The Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis is committed to positive social change through path-breaking research and educational excellence. Students at the Brown School are united by a passion to help others. The Brown School offers a very flexible curriculum for graduate students. The Master of Public Health (MPH) program provides a solid foundation in the core competencies of Public Health with an innovative curriculum centered on transdisciplinary research and problem solving. The MPH program is designed to provide opportunities for building analytical, leadership, and team building skills. Both the MPH and MSW programs offer national and international practicum opportunities. The MPH program aims to attract individuals who are committed to improving the health of vulnerable communities and populations around the world.

Eligibility & Additional Info

• Two $20,000 scholarships awarded to two City Year corps members, alumni or staff members per year. The scholarship for each recipient is $10,000 per year, renewable in the second year of the program for a total of $20,000.

• City Year applicants who are accepted and do not receive the give a year scholarship, or do not qualify for other scholarships, will receive one-for-one tuition match for alumni with AmeriCorps education award finds.
  
  
• Admitted alumni may be considered for other merit-based scholarships, up to and including full-tuition awards.
  
  

• Scholarships awarded to City Year corps members and alumni who have completed at least one year of service and staff members employed for at least two years.

• A one-year deferral for students admitted to Brown School's Master of Public Health (MPH) program who decide to complete their 1,700 hours of City Year service or continue to serve with City Year before starting the MPH program.

• Opportunities for City Year scholars to volunteer and participate in activities and projects sponsored by the Gephardt Institute for Public Services.

• Students interested in dual degree programs may be considered for scholarship awards for both programs. Dual degree programs at the Brown School include: MSW/MPH, and MPH/MBA.

• To identify your City Year affiliation: Please contact the school's Admission Office (below) to identify your affiliation with City Year to be considered for scholarships listed above.

• City Year verification: To get the application fee waived and to be considered for the scholarship, a service verification letter must be requested by emailing alumni@cityyear.org with "WashU - Brown School Public Health" in the subject line. Within the email, include the site where you served and your corps graduation month and year. This letter will be sent electronically by City Year to Admissions Office and added to your applicant file.
