Bain Capital and its employees have contributed to City Year’s development, growth and success for three decades through a wide range of philanthropic support, including more than $50 million in financial contributions. Hundreds of Bain Capital employees have participated in volunteer projects, given their expertise as advisors and board members, and made generous financial contributions to the organization. City Year’s relationship with Bain Capital dates back to its founding. The firm was one of the first contributors to City Year’s endowment in 1988 and was instrumental in the founding of City Year Boston’s annual Investment Community Breakfast.
Bain Capital has sponsored teams of AmeriCorps members for over 17 years, helping develop and support hundreds of young idealists dedicating a year or more to national service. The firm has committed to sponsoring teams of corps members serving in Boston, New York, Providence and Silicon Valley. In prior years, the firm has served as the Presenting Sponsor of the Red Jacket Society Leadership Conference, the National Investors Summit and City Year Boston’s Starry Night Gala.
Bain Capital believes that investing in young people creates stronger communities. That’s why we partner with City Year. Together, we help students at public schools achieve their dreams, and support the AmeriCorps members who set an example for all of us with their civic service.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Bain Capital continued its support to help City Year and corps members serve students, schools and communities during an unprecedented time. Following school closures in spring 2020 and throughout this academic year, City Year AmeriCorps members have kept students and their families connected and engaged with their school communities.
Speaking about the partnership, Jonathan Lavine, co-managing partner of Bain Capital and chief investment officer of Bain Capital Credit, said, “City Year and Bain Capital share a common belief that supporting young people’s education, growth and development is the single most important investment we can make in our future. City Year is an incredible double bottom-line investment. It helps students in public schools succeed, and at the same time develops AmeriCorps members into civic-minded leaders of tomorrow.”
