Our partner schools
City Year partners with teachers and schools in San Antonio Independent School District to help the students in our community thrive and achieve their goals. Our AmeriCorps members help make school a welcoming, joyful place where students feel like they belong, and where they can learn and grow. According to a recent study (May 2020) released by John Hopkins University, City Year AmeriCorps members’ social-emotional work helps students gain an entire year in school (students grade 3-10). It is estimated that COVID-19 has caused up to a year of learning loss for students, which means that City Year’s work is essential to bridging the gap more than ever.
AmeriCorps members focus on the whole child through academic interventions in Math and English Language Arts (classroom assistance and one on one tutoring), hosting extra-curricular activities, working to increase attendance, and doing behavioral coaching to ensure social-emotional learning.
Carvajal Elementary School
Carvajal Elementary School is located on the Westside of San Antonio. Our AmeriCorps members serve grades 3rd-5th. Carvajal's Principal is Dr. Hugo Saucedo, and the Impact Manager is Nicolas Galaretta-O'Connor.
Davis Middle School
Davis Middle School is located on the Eastside of San Antonio. Our AmeriCorps members serve grades 6th-8th. Davis' Principals are Kimberly Nwosu (6th) and Juaquin Soliz (7th/8th), and the Impact Manager is Marvin Whitt. The Lanier Team is proudly sponsored by the QuikTrip.
Margil Elementary School
Margil Elementary School is located on the Westside of San Antonio. Our AmeriCorps members serve grades 3rd-5th. Margil's Principal is Andrea Casteneda, and the Impact Manager is Anthony Rodriguez Jr. The Margil Team is proudly sponsored by Valero.
Lanier High School
Lanier High School is located on the Westside of San Antonio. Our AmeriCorps members serve 9th and 10th grade. Lanier's Principal is Dr. Rick Flores, and the Impact Manager is Dustyn Taylor. The Lanier Team is proudly sponsored by Valero.
Sam Houston High School
Sam Houston High School is located on the Eastside of San Antonio. Our AmeriCorps members serve 9th and 10th grade. Sam Houston's Principal is Dr. Nakeisha Bibbs, and the Impact Manager is Danielle Curd.
