Ashley Ashkenazi

Development Director

This is my sixth year at City Year!

The best part of my job is . . .

I enjoy doing different things every day and collaborating with my colleagues. I get to work with different departments and help City Year achieve our goals. I also enjoy working with our AmeriCorps members and champions!

My favorite subject in school

History. Hands down. The best teacher I ever had was my history teacher. Especially U.S. history, with a focus on Detroit!

My favorite book

Origins of the Urban Crisis, by Thomas Sugrue

Something I would like to learn this year

Baking! I’ve stepped up my game for cooking, but everyone is baking. I’d like to learn how to bake some Pinterest-pretty desserts!

My favorite place in Detroit is . . .

Riding my bike on the Dequindre Cut!

I am inspired by . . .

Our AmeriCorps members, who continue to provide crucial supports to our students. That’s what gets me up every day.

Something most folx don’t know about me . . .

I’m terrified of birds. Not a fan . . . but they love me!

Serving with the Peace Corps in Swaziland

My husband, Toly, and our daughter, Iris
