6 universities that stretch your Segal Education Award

One of our favorite benefits of serving with City Year, is the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. Upon completion of our program, AmeriCorps members receive $6,495 to help pay for college, graduate degree or technical school. There are a number of ways you can utilize your Segal Education Award:

Hundreds of universities across the U.S. accept the Segal Education Award. Our University Partners like to help you maximize your award. Not only do they accept the education award, they offer City Year alums additional scholarships! Here are six universities where you can use your education award and apply for additional scholarships just for City Year alums.

Loyola Marymount University—School of Education

Loyola Marymount University is a leading graduate school that is focused on life-long learning, academic excellence and cultivating and enriching a social-justice-for-all mindset in their students. They award up to 30 scholarships annually to City Year alums, offering a 30% tuition discount toward a dozen graduate degrees in education such as special education, counseling and school psychology.

University of California, Davis School of Law

The Davis School of Law (King Hall) at UC Davis is an internationally recognized public law school. Approved by the American Bar Association, they offer a Juris Doctor full-time day program. Every year they award a $15,000 tuition scholarship for up to one City Year alum. The scholarship is renewable in subsequent years by remaining in good academic standing—that’s $45,000 towards your law degree!

University of Michigan

City Year alums have a variety of scholarship opportunities at the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor and Dearborn, Michigan, locations. The benefits vary by program, but most awards range from $5,000 to $10,000. Those interested in law or education master’s programs or in undergraduate course options are encouraged to check out details online.

Colorado State University—Global Campus

Colorado State University-Global Campus is for the modern learner. This program is 100% online and offers bachelors’ and masters’ degrees as well as nationally recognized certificates and continuing education programs. They offer flexible courses with terms starting every four weeks. Every year they award up to four 25% tuition scholarships to City Year alums.

University of Pennsylvania

Whether you’re interested in pursuing a graduate degree in education, public administration, social work or nonprofit leadership, there are a number of programs at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia that offer our alums additional scholarships. Similarly, to the University of Michigan, the benefits vary by program, but scholarships range from $8,000 to $15,000.

New York University

New York University is another partner that offers City Year alums a variety of master’s degree scholarship opportunities. The Wagner Graduate School of Public Service awards two 50% tuition scholarships a year. Scholarships are also available for those pursing social work and education, media, music, occupational therapy, art and many other degrees as well.

 

Since 1994, AmeriCorps members have earned more than $3.3 billion in education awards. These are just a handful of the ‘AmeriSchools‘ and University Partners where AmeriCorps alums have used their education awards. If you’re not sure how you want to use your education award, don’t fret. You have seven years to use it.
